For the development devx file, containing the Gnu gcc compiler there is a big button in the **Sfs Get** tab of Quickpet
Once you install puppy, any way you like, be it frugal, full, usb or even save back to CD/DVD the button will appear and you can directly download the puppy **devx**

Quickpet now supports downloading and installing of Puppy SFS packages with one click.

In the quickpet **Sfs Grab** tab there is also a swag of sfs packages awaiting your click. They include Skype, Vlc, Samba to name but a few.
There is also a Sfs Grabber utility available from the sfs menu in Quickpet where you copy and paste a link to an sfs in the entry box and it will be downloaded and installed automatically.

Additions:
Once your file is in you can open "Bootmanager" from the Menu. Click "Menu (or Start) > System > Bootmanager". A window appears.

Additions:
which is a file system that Puppy Linux utilises. It is compressed, hence "Squash". It needs to be mounted like any other file system.
Puppy sets up several "layers" of file systems at first boot and has the ability to add more SFS layers. People in the Puppy community make large programs
such as Open Office into SFS because a Pet would populate much of Puppy's savefile. Unfortunately SFS can not be used on a full install.

So you have clicked the SFS button in Quickpackage and landed here! What now? Read on...
Below there are some links to SFS files. Perhaps you are wondering what exactly an SFS is? Well SFS stands for "Squash File System"
which is a file system that Puppy Linux utilises. It is compressed, hence "Squash". It needs to be mounted like any other file system. Puppy sets
up several "layers" of file systems at first boot and has the ability to add more of these. People in the Puppy community make large programs
such as Open Office in to SFS because a Pet would populate much of Puppy's savefile. Unfortunately SFS can not be used on a full install.
Now, download an SFS and save it to /mnt/home. You can configure your browser's download manager to do this to save mucking about later.
Once you file is in you can open "Bootmanager" from the Menu. Click "Menu (or Start)>>System>>Bootmanager". A window appears.

Click the "Choose which SFS to load at bootup" button and you see the next window.

You may find the following link useful. It is for sfs_linker, a program by jrb. It allows for mounting of SFS files on the fly, without a reboot.

Puppy 006 is a milestone release. The changes made since 002 to turn a hacker's hobby into a releasable Puppy are basically complete: the cutback of the dri/glx video (003), the new kernel 2.6.33.2 (004), the Choose Your Browser infrastructure (005), and with 006 comes the Quick Package installer. There is one more surprise for 007 but it uses the Quick Package infrastructure which is why I say the changes are basically complete.
Lucid Puppy will have a new feature named Quick Package that will be a one-click install for popular, well-written, useful Linux programs that will be specially configured and tested for Lucid Pup.
