Creating a cloned partition (sdb1) of unmounted sda1 partition (which must be greater in size)
dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/dev/sdb1 bs=4096 conv=notrunc,noerror
Creating a compressed image of the unmounted sda1 partition
dd if=/dev/sda1 bs=4096 | gzip > partition.image.gz conv=noerror
