Puppy Sourcery
-THIS IS A PROOF OF CONCEPT PROJECT ONLY AT THIS STAGE-
- There are no puppy linux pages for this project at present, one will only be created if the POC gets to
it's first concept marker!
- PLEASE DO NOT CREATE ONE!
The intent is to create a Cross between a version of BarryK's Quirky OE / Puppy Linux 5.5.1. and Sourcerer Linux.
It will be based on a cross of Sourcerer-201712 and Quirky OE using Racy 5.5.1 for the Desktop layout.
Is intended to eventually expand to allow other dynamic builds built on supplied base's.
Sourcerer Linux
-Sorcerer ?was ?is based almost exclusively on source code. While many other operating systems generallymake use of a package that contains pre-compiled (executable) programs, Sorcerer compiles source
code on the actual machine prior to installation. Sourcerer's website is partially available on The
Wayback Machine, but it's rather mixed up. (that's the nature of how the site stores things)
-Sorcery also automatically recompiles installed software as necessary to ensure continued compatibility
and usability when installed libraries need to be updated. Unlike a pre-compiled binary-based distribution
that must always download new packages, Sorcery most often recompiles installed software from previously
downloaded sources. When a new source is required and an older source was previously downloaded, then
Sorcerer will download a tiny patch that transforms the old source tarball into a current source tarball.
The practice of keeping old source tarballs and downloading patches for updates allows Sorcerer systems
to be updated using less bandwidth than distributions that provide pre-compiled packages.
