How to install and use Tor for network privacy
- The Tor network relies on volunteers to donate bandwidth. The more people who run relays, the faster the Tor network will be. If you have at least 20 kilobytes/s each way, please help out Tor by configuring your Tor to be a relay too.
- software package tor {source code distribution}
- the Web browser is only able to make use of Tor when
- (since 2013-09-20 Tor package) the Web browser has been configured to use Tor with
- SOCKS (v5) host
- address: 127.0.0.1
- port: 9063
- both Tor and Polipo are also running as well; running this Tor package will auto-start Polipo, presuming it has already been installed:
- Menu > Network > Tor
- dependencies:
- Tor is dependent on the host computer having its clock synchronized with that of the network clock: Psync
- confirmation of successful Tor connection:
- a Tor circuit may be re-established, new identity created, at any time via: Menu > Network > Tor
