I first really want to get Saluki to a point where it feels very comfortable to new Puppy users and addresses all the common usability complaints:
Unfamiliar desktop and file manager
Crowded and confusing menus
Slap-dash applications
Dated look and feel
Saluki
- ISO size 150MB or smaller
- Based on Racy 5.2.2
- every major gtk theme engine
- large number of fonts
- cursor themes
- full size icons throughout entire menu - no mini icons
- complete gnome icon set - this can be swapped out
(and an easy switcher is included)
- compositing and true transparency out of the box
- highly customizable and integrated xfce desktop environment
- every useful xfce panel applet
- community contributed wallpapers
- updated glib now shows mounted drives in file open/save dialogs
- gtk returned to 2.24.8 - possible fix for gseal errors included in devx
- vattery
- acpid - supend, hibernate, powersaving modes,etc
- sven - most hotkeys should work
- annoying welcomefirstboot message moved to the tray
- gxmessage replaces xmessage
- sfs-on-the-fly
- grandr
- Modular approach using interchangeable SFS
- Metacity Window manager
- Taskbar will be Xfce panel
- Alternate window manager either Icewm or Jwm
- PCManFM2 file manager
Possible pcmanfm2 file manager (Rox still available)
Tutorial on how anyone can create their own add-on
Window manager will be Metacity, (which is what Gnome uses)
Taskbar will be Xfce panel. Ttuuxxx uses this combination in his Classicpup 2.14X and it has the look of Xfce but uses less resources
Right now we are leaning towards Icewm
