While many other operating systems generally make use of a package that contains pre-compiled (executable) programs, Sorcerer compiles source code on the actual machine prior to installation. Sourcerer's website is partially available on The Wayback Machine, but it's rather mixed up. (that's the nature of how the site stores things) -Sorcery also automatically recompiles installed software as necessary to ensure continued compatibility and usability when installed libraries need to be updated. Unlike a pre-compiled binary-based distribution that must always download new packages, Sorcery most often recompiles installed software from previously downloaded sources. When a new source is required and an older source was previously downloaded, then Sorcerer will download a tiny patch that transforms the old source tarball into a current source tarball. The practice of keeping old source tarballs and downloading patches for updates allows Sorcerer systems to be updated using less bandwidth than distributions that provide pre-compiled packages. ==== Puppy Linux==== - I shouldn't have to add anything to this ==Software available== - Just about anything ==Multilingual Version== ==Reviews== ==Also on the Wiki== ~[[Barebones Racy53 Barebones]] ~[[RacyNOP]] ~[[Wary]] - Racy built for older computer ==Related Webpages== ~[[WikiPedia:Sorcerer_(Linux_distribution)]] ~[[http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02784 Racy 5.3 release announcement]] - improved language support ~[[http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=564671#564671 Bugs and feedback report thread]] ~[[http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02940 Wary/Racy plans blog post]] ~[[http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=688301#688301 Fix for SFS Load for Kernels > 3.2 post]] ---- ==Categories== CategoryPuppies
